Occupational hazards in window cleaning.
نویسنده
چکیده
Accidental falls involving window cleaners treated at the Middlesex Hospital over five years are reviewed. Failure to use safety belts and the lack of suitable anchorage points were contributary factors in all 20 patients. The use of protective equipment and the provision of anchorage points should be enforced. While the doctor's duty is to treat injuries he also has the opportunity to draw attention to their prevention.

A key challenge in reducing the burden of lead poisoning is to identify cost-effective interventions that minimize lead-based paint hazards. One-time professional cleaning of lead-contaminated dust and debris was conducted in 37 housing units with deteriorated lead-based paint and dust lead hazards. These study units are a subset of a larger cohort of the nearly 3500 housing units enrolled in t...

BACKGROUND In recent years, cleaning has been identified as an occupational risk because of an increased incidence of reported respiratory effects, such as asthma and asthma-like symptoms among cleaning workers. Due to the lack of systematic occupational hygiene analyses and workplace exposure data, it is not clear which cleaning-related exposures induce or aggravate asthma and other respirator...
